A Clear View for Architecture and Construction Specifiers: Marvin Windows and Doors’ Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung Window

One of 20 expo products as seen at the annual AIA 2015 conference, which drew thousands of architects and design professionals to Atlanta in May, Marvin Windows and Doors’ Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung Window has been ranked as a “Top Product Pick for Specifiers” by an independent committee of writers and publicists who cover architectural and building envelope product news year-round.

All exhibitors of the AIA 2015 expo were invited to participate in the top products consideration and selection process. Leading up to the event, product manufacturers with displays planned for the expo were invited via email to submit completed product forms with photos to be considered by the panel, which was led by Eberly & Collard Public Relations. The firm specializes in public and media relations in the architecture, construction and design industries, which involves the firm’s staff contributing and writing design case-studies and product profiles for numerous trade and mainstream media outlets each year.

The autonomous panelists who reviewed more than 350 products and selected the top 20 product picks conducted the research in neutral jury format, whereas existing clients of the firm were exempt. Those products included in the top 20, which are being revealed individually during fall and winter 2015, were chosen based upon three factors, including advanced technology, innovative design and aesthetic visual appearance.

The Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung Window was particularly chosen for its traditional-looking style, while being designed to be deceptively modern, combining state-of-the-art technology with Marvin’s legendary American craftsmanship. The product reviewers found a marked difference in how Marvin Windows and Doors puts innovation into practice with the reinvention of this classic window.

The company has expanded its Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung family to include not only the classic double hung, but also a round-top version as well as an IMPACT version for regions where hurricane protection is needed.

The Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung Window uses a pioneering hardware system, which elegantly combines the traditional double hung look with intuitive operation, modern convenience and added peace of mind for users.

The fact that all aspects of the window’s operation are controlled with a single piece of hardware was a key element in the window being made part of the top products category. The revolutionary hardware system allows users to effortlessly and intuitively perform a variety of functions.

With a flick of the sweep, the bottom and top sashes both can be opened to let in air. The hardware is designed to give a positive “click” when the window has been locked, for extra peace of mind. When one sash is open, the other sash can be locked, a feature that no other double hung window on the market can offer.

When users want fresh air, but do not wish to fully open the window, the Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung delivers with Vent Mode. After raising the bottom sash of the window, the user simply slides the sweep to the locked position. The sash can then be raised to four inches of clearance, where it will stop with a “click.”

The Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung’s hardware allows the bottom and top sashes to tilt in for easy washing, while the Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung Round Top’s bottom sash tilts for cleaning. To wash, simply press the button on top of the sweep and pull the sash inward to clean the exterior from inside.

The window’s multi-point locking system locks directly into the jamb to help prevent draftiness and improve structural performance. The result is a more air-tight window that provides greater energy efficiency and comfort.

The design of the Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung is stunning in its attention to detail, fit and finish. The entire interior of the window is wood. Weather-stripping is minimized, so nothing mars the beauty of the warm wood interior.

“The Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung is the result of many discussions with our customers; they wanted large sizes, performance that pushed anything the market has seen, greater energy efficiency, and all with enhancing the beauty and bringing modern functionality to the product,” said Christine Marvin, director of marketing for Marvin Windows and Doors. “With selections for rectangular, round top or IMPACT Next Generation Ultimate Double Hungs, there is something for every project.”

The Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung also features a narrower checkrail.  At only 1 15/16”, the checkrail follows traditional window proportions, making it ideal for historic renovations as well as new construction.

But beauty and ease of operation are only the beginning. The Next Generation Ultimate Double Hung performs to industry-leading standards, with a DP50 rating on the most popular sizes.
