Our project was to design a masterplan for the westward expansion of the usc campus. As of now the majority is low income housing with student housing at the edge of campus. So what my project hopes to bring is a vision on how we could connect with the "other" side of vermont. At first, one had to look for inspiration outside studio, around us or far out. I decided to choose the caves. I like nature and caves are great structures while creating great shelter from the environment, it housed our earliest ancestors. Also i admired their mass and sturdiness that they symbolize. So once we had our inspiration was one had a find architectural elements related to our inspiration. Through some urban exploration I found that our freeway system and historic bridges create the same aesthetic and feel as the cave does. That eventually drove my design towards a communal cave connected at all times.
