I have been practicing architecture in San Francisco for the past 32 years, and spent the past 12 years as principal and director of the community design group at Field Paoli Architects. During that time, I led the teams for more than 50 major public and non-profit based projects including libraries, community centers, recreational master plans, and other neighborhood facilities.
I retired from Field Paoli at the end of 2012, and am currently engaged in teaching and running the summer architectural internship program at UC Berkeley, and working and volunteering at a couple of other part time positions.
I am looking to move to a new stage in my career, either with a new architectural firm, or with an associated practice, in which I can apply the skills i've developed over the years, and expand into new areas.
I remain very passionate and enthusiastic about the potential of our profession, and hope to find a new home that will engage my abilities and my energy in a productive manner.

I am currently heading up the University's summer architectural internship program, and teaching a concurrent course in professional practice. I have lined up internships for 22 students in San Francisco and East Bay offices, and have developed a curriculum to introduce them to the aspects of practice that they are not exposed to in school, including financial management, business development, collaboration with other design and construction professionals, public speaking, and strategic planning.

As principal in charge of our community design practice, i led multi-disciplinary teams in the development of a broad range of projects for public and non-profit clients. Some of my recent jobs include the renovation of 3 branch libraries in San Francisco, the Mayfair Community Center and Almaden Community Center and Library in San Jose, and the George Sim Community Center in Sacramento.
My responsibilities included business development, firm leadership, design, oversight of production, construction administration, and more.

Having been at this firm for almost 20 years, my role grew and changed over time. For my last 7 years at BSA, I was a principal, and the leader of the firm's community design practice. my role was very similar to that described for Field Paoli, including business development, design, documentation, and construction administration. In addition, I served for a number of years as the president of the firm, so worked a lot of firm strategies and management.

I spent one year of the program as an exchange student in the architecture school at Cambridge University in England. While in school, i worked part time in the school library, and also at a development/architectural firm called Endevor in downtown Boston.

i was an architecture major at Stanford, and received a BA in June 1976. Courses included design studio, structures, practice, art and architectural history, and all of the prerequisites. I also focused on studio art and photography classes while an undergraduate. While in school, i worked part time in a fraternity dining facility, and at the alumni office. Following graduation, and prior to beginning graduate school, i worked for 15 months at the architectural firm of Natkin and Weber in San Francisco.

i was awarded fellowship in the AIA in recognition of my successful work with community groups, leading to buildings that both served and represented them.
