Middlebury College, Solar Decathlon, Middlebury, VT, US, Team Member, Student Mentor

•Designed and constructed a 100% solar powered home, showcased and judged in the Fall of 2011 at The US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon: a biannual international competition in Washington DC.
•Took 4th overall in competition and 1st outright in three of ten contests.
•Worked on the Engineering Team along with local professionals to help design all mechanical, plumbing and fire suppression systems throughout the home.
•Aided in problem solving for issues of costs, modularization, shipping, and unforeseen setbacks.
•Responsible for creating a personal schedule and meeting self set deadlines as well as working within a larger team to achieve an overarching mission statement.
•Providing guidance and feedback to questions team members may have about proper procedures, codes, and design issues for the college’s 2013 submission to the contest.

Bear Island Design Assembly (BIDA), Bear Island, ME, US, Participant

•Lived off the grid on Bear Island in Penobscot Bay, Maine which is owned and operated by the family of Buckminster Fuller; sought to be inspired by his vision of architecture and the natural beauty around us.
•Worked for a week alongside professionals including principal architect Jonathan Marvel of Rogers Marvel Architects and John McLeod and Steven Kredell of McLeod Kredell Architects.
•Worked to design a flexible and portable shelter for displaced people through intensive studio work, building with materials off the land, lectures by Allegra Fuller and Philip Conkling of the Island Institute, and a group critique with Shoji Sadao: president of Fuller and Sadao PC Architects.
