The boat landings at the 72nd Street Lake in Central Park first appeared
in the early 1860s, during the period of the Park’s initial
construction. These original structures deteriorated over time and by
the 1960s they bore little resemblance to their original designs. A
series of renderings where produced for the Central Park Conservancy
to be used for fundraising purposes. These funds will be used to bring
the boat landing structures back to their original designs by Calvert Vaux.
