The Creatures Series is an award winning speculative project exploring the notion of hylozoism and ritualism. Set in a post apocalyptic future, hybrid and sentient machines scavenge affective objects in the meaning to preserve them against the threat of another catastrophic event. Rupert, Lucy’s teddy bear, given to her by her grandmother and in turn handcrafted 4 generations before her, is delivered to sentient machines, entities in between natural and artificial, here mapping the object and collecting its presence and ownership into an online database. The ritual is the moment when Lucy and her grandmother come together and deliver the object to the creature. A first set of claws close and grasp the object when placed within the machine sight. Tentacles spasm revealing the constant pulse of the two users. Once frequency and BPM match, a second pair of claws lock the object and map it in a 3D environment within the shared-unique biological marker obtained during the ritual.
