During the study period for obtaining the PhD certificate, students must undertake a stay at a prestigious higher education institution or research centre outside Spain, where they take a course or conduct research. The stay and the activities must be endorsed by the supervisor and authorised by the academic committee, and must be added to the student's activities document. The stay may be undertaken over different periods, provided the total amount of time is at least three months, but it must take place at a single institution.
