I am currently a Master of Architecture Student at the University of Oregon at Portland with a focus on urban design. I am looking to make an impact through socially-conscious design, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and community place making.
Brett Schulz, Architect, Portland, OR, US, Architectural Intern
I had the chance to work on a series new construction and adaptive-reuse projects teamed with a community-centered developer on projects in Northeast Portland. I handled permit sets and produced as-builts for a variety of clients and building types. With the smaller size of the office I was able to gain experience in being flexible in workflow and jumping on a task as soon as it presents itself. Gaining perspective from developer-driven projects gave me a greater appreciation for the architect as an advocate in the design process and where the two roles can merge. I primarily worked in Revit and AutoCAD during my time at BSA.
HCM Architects, Minneapolis, MN, US, Architectural Designer
During my time at HCM, I worked primarily in the design development and construction document phases of several commercial, corporate and civic projects using Revit, SketchUp, InDesign, and AutoCAD. I gained experience in team and client collaboration and was a Project Manager on a medium-scale corporate office remodel. I gained confidence in my ability to balance multiple projects at once and creating strong client relationships through leading design meetings and coordinating permit sets.
