Pasado's Safe Haven

Pasado’s mission is to provide lifelong sanctuary to animals that have been subject to abuse and neglect. Their nonprofit organization and animal spaces share an amazing piece of land just outside of Monroe, Washington. We are honored to help them create new homes for a variety of barnyard and household companions, offices and homes for the people that care for them, and an education center for supporters and students.

The new program spaces will be spread across various sites throughout the property, and include a new Cow Barn, Dog Towne, Kitty City, Center for Compassion, and Caregiver housing.

To address the complex and intersecting needs of people and animals throughout the site, we formed an integrated design team at the start of the project. We led a conceptual design workshop for the team and Pasado’s staff to share perspectives and ideas for program and site development. We also developed design images and models to support their Capital Campaign efforts to make this expansive project a reality.

Low-impact site development is a priority throughout the project, and Net Zero Water and Energy strategies are being explored for many of the program areas. Healthy, local construction materials are specified in spaces for people and animals alike.

As of the beginning of 2021, the Cow Barn and Dog Towne are complete. Kitty City should break ground in early spring, and Center for Compassion is in Schematic Design.
