This project was conducted in a studio class as a submission for Steelcase’s NEXT Student Design Competition. Students were asked to create a work and patient-friendly space in an existing office building in the SoDo District of Seattle. The current structure of the office building could not be altered. The competition’s rules stipulated use of Seattle’s healthcare design codes and utilizing Steelcase’s line of healthcare furniture. The program prescribed was very dynamic, requiring both healthcare facilities and spaces such as a work cafe for healthy cooking demonstrations and workshops along with a large flexible office space for an evolving outpatient center.
