I am hereby expressing my motivation on the job of starting designer (startend ontwerper).
I have already got my master degree in urbanism, from the Department of Urbanism, Faculty of Architecture, Delft University of Technology (TU-Delft), and I’m going to do a job in an outstanding studio to learn from brilliant designers to improve my skills and experience in urban planning and design.
Due to the huge effect from my grandparents, hydraulicians who have participated in the design of many hydropower stations, I got the chance to know various design instruments and mapping work since my childhood. With the support in developing my interest from family, I have studied piano and singing for years, from which I gained the skills and aesthetic sense of art. Back to six years ago, I began my bachelor program on landscape architecture in Zhejiang University, China. Through a 4-year studying I realized that I should pursue a higher level in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Among four different masters programs in Faculty of Architecture in TU/Delft, I found my great interest in the field of urbanism because of its rationality, preciseness and pragmatic approach. And in the following two years, I experienced the differences and commonness between landscape and urbanism. Compared with landscape architecture, urbanism can not only play a very important role in our modern daily life, but also reflect the society social and economic phenomenon. In almost all the greatest evolutions during the past centuries, the great urban plans/designs have been applied. The career of an urbanist is a dream work as my wish that can improve the living quality of people and I’m willing to continue in the future.
In the past two years during my master program, I got the knowledge on urban theory, analysis and design methodology, and also the logical way of thinking to find out solutions to the problems appear or hide in urban bodies. My capability in sketching, strategic planning and design, computer design tools and academic writing have been improved into a new stage; meanwhile I also can play an important role in a team, no matter with international backgrounds or the pure local group mates, and the capability of creation, corporation, execution, and presentation help me work well and be impressive.
Not having so much work experience is indeed a disadvantage of mine, but I am a quick-learner. With the theoretical knowledge and practical experience got from university, I have the faith in myself that I can start up fast and fulfill the requirements as a qualified urban designer. So I’m eager to start my career with a job in a studio having open, harmonious, sessional and inspiring atmosphere where I can learn from the experienced designers.
I want to find an ideal studio to develop my career, which is dynamic, innovative and focused on brilliant design. In such a firm I can not only become an expert in the field of urbanism but also enhance my other professional skills, and I hope to become a part of the studio in the future.
