This case study is an academic exercise in which a 28 flat building is developed,
with basement, swimming pool and common areas. All the apartments are organized on nine levels, with extensive but deep-set glazing ensuring generous
views and natural light but also privacy and shading the interior and the terraces.
Elements and materials articulate the elevations giving them rhythm and texture.
Because of its design and the continous staging in façade, each floor is different,
which added complexity to the making of the modelling and to make everything
match and work. But, at the same time, thanks to that wealth and variety in layouts
types, an attractive and dynamic final image is achieved.
The project has been designed fully using BIM. The modelling of the different
elements was executed in different archives owing to its nature. First, all
architectural elements were executed on a central model, while the structure and
installations were done on linked files.
The complexity of this exercise was a result of its high level of detail, with the
objective of mimicking the reality of a project on execution phase. All knowledge
acquired during the master’s development and the years of experience with BIM
models are downloaded in this study case.
