Cool Ranch is a conversion of a 1930’s home in the hills of Silverlake. The project involved a complete remodel of the house including adding a music studio, an ADU and a pool for an up-and-coming musician. The top level was transformed into an open plan kitchen-dining-living area that utilizes an existing covered porch with views to the West. An addition was added to the bedroom wing in order to maximize the views in the master suite.
On the lower level, the music studio’s large wood windows create a connection with the tiered garden and pool beyond. The reimagined home is clad with cedar siding and topped with a new copper roof meant to patina through the seasons. The client desired a sophisticated but dynamic material palette to keep with the spirit of Silverlake.
