Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

The project scope consisted of the complete renovation and restoration of the two historic rooftop suites – The Gable Penthouse, and the Lombard Penthouse. Both units are sizeable –  2,100SF and 2,000SF respectably. Fittingly, both units were reimagined to function not only as the premier hotel suites of Los Angeles, but also as stand-alone apartments suitable for long term dwelling and entertaining. Programmatically, the Gable Penthouse has dramatic panorama views of both the Hollywood hills and the downtown LA city skyline, and consists of 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and what will undoubtedly become one of the most visually iconic entertaining spaces in LA – a massive sunken living room surrounded by a bar and state of the art entertainment system, all of which sits underneath 20’ vaulted ceiling accented by a historic mural from the 1920’s. The Lombard Penthouse is accessed directly via a dedicated elevator stop, and consists of a massive primary bedroom, a private office, 3 bathrooms, a dining room that can seat 16 guests, a fully equipped kitchen, and a massive living room with a 6 seat-bar that opens up to a private rooftop garden. Additionally, both suites have dedicated access to a shared 3,000SF rooftop entertaining space that has 2 private restrooms, unobstructed 360-degree views of the entire city, and up-close access to the history Roosevelt Hotel marquee sign. Via the shared rooftop, both penthouses can be joined with one another to provide an unrivaled lodging or entertainment experience. From a design perspective, both penthouses are first and foremost respectful to the historic nature of the Roosevelt Hotel, which was built in the 1920’s and has since been designated a Los Angeles Historical Cultural Monument and also a Historic Hotel of America. With the ‘Golden Era of Los Angeles’ in mind, the architectural finishes consist of a timeless combination of rich Italian marbles, dark stained walnut and oak wall panels & wainscoting, antiqued mirror details, and warm plasters, all accented by various historic hand painted ceiling murals – some of which were hidden for decades and just uncovered during this renovation process. Furniture and décor is comprised of a rich assortment of antiques and vintage pieces sourced from all over the world. Be it a 19th century side table from the Spanish coast to a 1930’s Italian vanity mirror, every furniture piece tells a story and comes with a deep narrative. Poignantly, all furniture and décor is also meant to convey a feeling of warmth and comfortability  – as if you are inhabiting an unknown family members long-lived abode. And while the aesthetic of both penthouses are in sync with one another, there are intentionally subtle design variances that lead the Gable Penthouse to feeling more feminine and refined while the Lombard Penthouse can convey a slightly more rugged, masculine energy. Contributing details in the Gable Penthouse include voluptuous floor to ceiling drapery, curved window casings and trim, an expansive primary bathroom perfect for glamour, and an oversized 18th century French tapestry that retracts up and down to conceal the theater screen. At the Lombard Penthouse, the primary bedroom includes a private office with a stocked library, a sea of chocolate stained parquet wood flooring, and a fully functioning bar perfect for hosting. Other design touch points include a music listening area equipped with stereo grade JBL speakers and a vast assortment of vinyl records, a vast assortment of collectible Phaidon coffee table books scattered throughout both penthouses, and a highly curated art program that is curated perfectly to both the city of Los Angeles, and also the storied Roosevelt Hotel.
