Crossroads Compass

Crossroads Compass Performing Arts Center is a versatile venue encompassing different performance spaces. Catering to a diverse array of performance genres, Crossroads Compass holds a Recital Hall, Experimental Theatre and Dance Studio. All elements of each space are unique and come together to form the “Compass” of Kansas City. Each wing of the building points to different historical areas around Kansas City that have formed what it is today. This flows into the outdoor space with a community-friendly, walkable experience, that is shaped from the angles of the building. It includes a performance space off the lobby, seating areas, spacious paths and plaques at the base of each peak explaining the history in which it points to.

The site is what drove my design. It is extremely unique and the opportunity to hold the liveliness of Southwest Boulevard in the design was a necessity. The area around 20th and Southwest is a lively, cultured, historic, bustling place. Many new residences are rising around it so creating experience and greenspace wherever
possible was a must for the community. It being such a historical area led my design to honor it and the places around it creating the Crossroads Compass.
