Website launch
KAAN Architecten launched the new website at the end of April. A completely new and fresh design displaying all works, news, academia and publications. The website is a full architectural and visual experience through more than 20 years of work, projects and academic research.
PLANTA: Collateral Event - La Biennale di Venezia
During the 14th International Architecture Exhibition, PLANTA, organised by Fundació Sorigué and curated by the Dutch office DOMAIN, showed KAAN Architecten's architectural project. The official presentation was held on the 6th of June at the Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello di Venezia.
KAAN Architecten and DOMAIN have developed a visual concept design for City Hall Park in São Paulo (Brazil)
The design organises the site into a series of archipelagos dedicated to leisure and performance, each island is reinforced with an icon dedicated to performance. The icons from a continuity of irregularity, each with unique spaces and functions, and varying in typology, density, and landscape. More information here.
KAAN Architecten wins B30 competition
The Government Buildings Agency has selected the design of KAAN Architecten for the Facilicom Consortium PPS B30 as winner of the PPP contract for the Bezuidenhoutseweg 30 project in The Hague. The project focuses on public environment with seminar and conference rooms, library, flex place workstations, restaurant and an espresso bar.

Dikkie Scipio column - ZAAL Z magazine no.9
The 9th issue of ZAAL Z Koninklijk Museum Voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen magazine (Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium) has been released and it features Dikkie Scipio's column under the name "Not ideal". You can read the full English version of "Not ideal" via this link.
PLANTA amongst the 25 top exhibitions to visit during the "La Biennale di Venezia"
PLANTA has been listed by Wallpaper* magazineas one of the top 25 exhibitions to visit during the 14th International Architecture Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia. The installation features three main interventions: a 1:100 model of the project, a sound installation and six books plus a film projection.
KAAN Architecten are pleased to announce the following awards during this year 2014
Winner of the '9th Saint-Gobain Gypsum International Trophy' (plasterboard category) as runner-up for the Education Center Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam (NL).
Nominated project of the 'Philippe Rotthier Prize 2014' for the District Water Board Brabantse Delta, Breda (NL). The project will be part of an exhibition held at the "Fondation pour l'Architecture" (CIVA) in Brussels from October 18th to November 23rd, 2014.
Nomination for the 'Daylight Award 2014' for the Education Center Erasmus MC, Rotterdam (NL).

Education Center Erasmus MC on cover of DETAIL magazine
The May 2014 issue of DETAIL magazine (DE) dedicated to refurbishment is featuring KAAN Architecten Education Center Erasmus MC in Rotterdam (NL). While from page 440 you can find an in-depth article with details and images of the whole design.
ON THE BOARD
Rue Hegel in Lille (France)
The project is a part of a master plan aiming to boost, flourish a former industrial neighbourhood in Lille and it's based in a two-steps design: Danon and ILOT 13B. For both plots materials and detailing are robust referring to the character of the site. The city's objective was to have a pragmatic Dutch approach and forms characterised by flush façades and bold window frames.
First construction phase of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands
In the Hague, a Supreme Court committee together with the project consortium representatives, officially announced the inception of the first construction phase of the new Supreme Court of the Netherlands building designed by KAAN Architecten. The Dutch photographer Dominique Panhuysen followed the beginning of the excavation process.
Survey at the marble quarry in Alicante (Spain)
Vincent Panhuysen, partner at KAAN Architecten, travelled to Alicante for a material research and took these majestic pictures of the marble quarry. The Supreme Court of The Netherlands will be enriched by these impressive stones placed all over the building's façade, and soon we will share more images of the construction process in our website.
Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp (Belgium)
Soon the first phase of the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen's renovation designed by KAAN Architecten will be completed. Karin Borghouts delighted us with this picture where 800 different pieces of the moulding are removed, numbered and sorted properly to prepare the museum for the second phase to start. Kees Kaan at the Strelka Institute (Summer Programme 2014)
Kees Kaan took part in the first event of "Rethinking Europe - European experience in the city development" series (part of the Summer Programme of the institute and realised in partnership with the Fundació Mies van der Rohe), dedicated to Amsterdam development case at the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design in Moscow, Russia.
Cruz y Ortiz visiting professors for "Anatomy of a Landmark"
From September 2014, the "Anatomy of a Landmark" studio, part of Kees Kaan's Complex Projects chair, will host "Studio Amsterdam"; a collaboration between the Spatial Planning Department of Amsterdam and TU Delft Department of Architecture. The studio features architects Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz as spatial visiting professors.
