Roulette: Cal Poly Vellum Furniture Competition

The concept for the piece was to create an indeterminate form that would invite play and social interaction from the users in order to activate and use the piece. Users must explore and move the dynamic chair in order to find a fitting configuration, and in doing so take authorship over their decisions and ultimate outcomes, strengthening engagement with the piece. Articulated panels fold and collapse into a multiplicity of designed sitting configuration outcomes, some of which require collaboration in order to explore the full spectrum of sitting opportunities. Spring systems assist with movement and the changeability of configurations. It is a dynamic and movable piece that could be deployed in public settings to catalyze random social interaction between chance users and spectators.
