The future-use design approach suggests that designers and architects provide for the use and re-use as well flexibility and adaptability for its current and future occupants of a building.
With adaptability in mind, prototypes of structural and enclosure systems were designed first. In futher development there was implementation strategies for heating and cooling, ventilation, as well as natural lighting systems. Later, these prototypes were tested in aggregation in order to test its’ potential for programmatic and site flexibility.
At the conclusion of the comprehensive design studio each prototype was evaluated based on the integration into a site at Boston College. The proposed buildings were tested for programmatic flexibility, heating and cooling efficiency, natural light qualities as well as ventilation quality for current and future-use.
