The aim of this competition was to design a temporary, free-standing sukkah to be built in Toronto on the eve of the holiday of Sukkot. My idea was to propose an innovated Sukkah design that was meaningful to the Jewish community. Therefore, I utilized the star of the Israel flag as my main concept. I deconstructed the star, and I was able to come up with a unique solution to meet the requirements of the program. The temporary structure was built using wood shingles and burlap fabric. The fabric provides shade and the wood shingles serve as structure for the shelter. These materials were suitable to this particular project because it was convenient to deliver to the site and simple to install.
