Adequacy to the environment.
The planned urban planning is profited and the relationship between the interior of the island and the Torrent de Can Rovira is provided. The materiality of the proposal reflects the character of Polinyà and integrates it into the landscape.
General arrangement of the building
The accesses optimally resolve the relationship between the premises and the two housing units. The lobbies lead to the center of each garment from where three adapted dwellings of the same typology are accessed.
In the standard floor plan, the central access core and four courtyards rationally distribute six dwellings on each floor. The inner service ring equips the dwellings, which are resolved in two typologies (A and B) between large climatic courtyards.
A structural distribution has been foreseen that can adapt its configuration to a reinforced concrete system as well as to wooden pillars and beams.
The dwelling
The large courtyards structure the relationships between the different interior spaces. The permanent contact with the exterior brings light and air to each room. The accessible, wide and corridor-free layout allows for optimal adaptation to future configurations.
Bioclimatic strategy
The control of the courtyards allows them to function as collectors in winter and coolers for ventilation in summer, as well as allowing cross ventilation of all rooms. In summer, the very geometry of the building generates shade inside.
