Rivers & Christian is a boutique architecture firm specializing in aviation projects. We are looking for 1 to 2 intermediate level design professionals to join our team.

At R&C, we’re experts in providing architectural services to the aviation industry - we have over forty years of experience and presence in every major airport in California and the extensive portfolio of commercial project clients to back up our reputation. Our projects are fast-paced, challenging, and highly rewarding. Some of our current projects include long-range terminal master planning, major terminal renovation and expansion, as well as ground-up general aviation facilities.

Job Expectations/Responsibilities:

  • General Responsibilities: Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and develops designs.  Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved  techniques and procedures.  
  • Team Structure:  Reports to Job Captain (where applicable) and/or Project Manager. Works on projects  and tasks as assigned, and takes initiative to address project/task needs beyond what  is directly assigned. May provide guidance to less experienced team members. May delegate portions of tasks to other team members in consultation with Job Captain /  Project Manager. 
  • Pre-Design: Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned project including  investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best address  the challenge and/or meets the client's needs. 
  • Contract Drawings: Prepares CD set with advisement from Job Captain/ Project Manager for advanced technical solutions.
  • Specifications: Understands specification divisions and parts of specifications. Ability to identify products needed, contact reps, and evaluate product options. Collects and organizes cut sheets. Responsible for writing specifications for designated divisions. Awareness  of contents of Division 1. 
  • Construction Administration: Attends meetings with contractor, participates in site observations, and prepares field  reports. Reviews submittals and responds to RFIs (more complex items).  Prepares and issues bulletins and closeout documentation. Understands issues brought up by contractor and client, develops options, and makes recommendations for solutions. Works with Project Manager for complex issues. Prepares closeout documents and record drawings.  
  • Code Analysis / AHJ Interface: Understands and incorporates ADA requirements, restroom requirements, and egress  requirements into drawings. Understands how to size a building by construction type.  Prepares preliminary code analysis. Reviews code to ensure compliance is met in  drawings. Participates in and may lead review and approval process with building  department or other authorities having jurisdiction. 
  • Problem Solving / Analysis: Possesses problem-solving skills and demonstrates the ability to analyze data, identify solutions, and make recommendations for project decisions. 
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally, in writing, and through drawings. Uses applicable software to develop designs, prepare presentations and reports, and  communicate to team.  
  • Meetings: Attends, presents, and may lead project meetings, prepares meeting notes, and takes actions on next steps.
  • Consultant Coordination: Participates in consultant coordination, may lead for specific elements or smaller projects, actively participates in meetings, reviews questions with more experienced  team members. Reviews and understand consultant drawings for interface with  architectural solutions.
  • Client Interaction: Attends meetings with and may present specific design solutions directly to the client. 
  • QA/QC: Performs qa/qc for work produced. 
  • Document Control: Organizes Data and Files, transmits files through designated means.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Architecture, bachelor's degree or higher (required)
  • 6-8 years of post-graduate project experience (required)
  • Revit, with a minimum of 5 years Revit project experience (required)
  • Knowledge of architectural design and the basics of architectural drawing set production and 3D coordination
  • Portfolio demonstrating work in Revit and Revit Family Editor
  • Must be organized, structured, and detail-oriented. Attentive to detail and schedule, and self-motivated
  • Abilities in 3D modeling (Rhino, Sketchup) and rendering (Vray, 3dsMax) as well as Adobe Creative Suite for design
  • Expert level Revit modeling skills including wall types, furniture, lighting, symbols, tags, etc.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in AutoCad
