Work Shift Thirty-four (34) hours per week

responsibilities for a total of 45.5 hours/week for each of two 16-week
semesters.

Description
Pasadena City College is hiring a full-time, tenure track Architecture Instructor commencing in the 2023-24 academic year.
The
primary emphasis will be in teaching all levels of architecture
courses. The instructor’s focus will be in teaching both entry level
architectural design to students beginning the PCC program and teaching
advanced skills and techniques to advanced students. Candidates should
demonstrate a successful record of significant work and/or expertise in
teaching emerging trends in the area of design and history/theory.
Experience with subjects such as architectural world history and theory
and digital fabrication is expected for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ARCHITECTURE INSTRUCTOR:
- Teach
a variety of courses in Architectural Design, Architectural Visual
Communications, Architectural Materials and Methods of Construction,
Architectural History, and Professional Practice
- Work closely with students to develop the creative, conceptual and critical potential of their design projects
- Provide
leadership in, and complete the development of, professional, career
development, and interdisciplinary curriculum consistent with Career and
Technical Education standards and best practices
- Develop and
maintain pathway relationships with K-12 partners, campus resources,
transfer institutions and the professional community through networking
and advisory committee duties
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students, to manage shared facilities and resources in the VAMS division
- Actively
participate in other professional duties such as student advising,
departmental and college committees, grant writing and reporting, course
and program assessment, student outreach, program review and update,
assessment of articulation agreements with transfer institutions,
maintenance of accredited status with accrediting organizations
- Maintain and update course-relevant skills through professional development opportunities
- Maintain a professional voice through continuing interaction with professionals in the field
- Oversee students in work-based learning experiences on and off campus
- Lead and participate in reviews of student work and presentations across the program
- Participate
in professional development activities that support best practices for
teaching a diverse population of both major and non-major students
- Participate in the evaluation, revision, and development of the curriculum
- Participate in the recruitment, outreach, and development of internship opportunities for students
- Participate with faculty to develop and assess student learning outcomes. Use the results to improve teaching and learning
- Undertake the divisional and professional responsibilities of a regular faculty member
- Participate in divisional and college governance activities through committee service and/or other appropriate activities
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated experience and instructional knowledge of critical aspects of design and history of architecture.
- Demonstrated experience as a jury coordinator and participant in collegiate architectural education environments.
- Currency and knowledge of emerging trends in architectural design, history and theory.
- Ability to work with students of varying academic preparation and learning styles.
- Ability to utilize different methods and mediums in delivering course material
- Demonstrated experience in integrating key architecture program principles including sustainability and global thinking.
- Demonstrated excellence in critical analytic, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Experience working successfully in a socially, ethnically and economically diverse environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a desire for collegial collaboration across the campus.
- Ability

meaningful understanding of the contextual relationships between
architectural production and urbanism, socio-economics, and culture
- Skills needed to develop students' commitment to environmental sustainability and the ethical responsibilities of the profession

to creating equity and serving community college students
underrepresented in the architectural, design and construction
professions, including women and racially minoritized students
- Ability to adapt varying pedagogical approaches to meet the needs of students with differing learning modalities and abilities
- Knowledge of current practices in distance education including learning management systems such as Canvas
- Experience with Student Learning Outcomes and assessment methods
- Outstanding
interpersonal skills and a desire and ability to work collaboratively
with colleagues, students, and other members of the campus community
- Ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment with students of varying academic preparation and learning styles
- Knowledgeable
about culturally sustaining pedagogical techniques and effective
practices for engaging African American, Latinx, and Indigenous groups
who are historically underrepresented and underserved
- Recent
experience working with minoritized students in the classroom and an
understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups
within higher education shapes patterns of participation and outcomes
- Willingness
to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom
practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized
students
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience and proficiency in current teaching and learning techniques
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience,
OR
- Any Associate degree and six years of experience,
OR
- A valid California Community College Instructor Credential,
OR
Degree must be shown as conferred on transcript. Some degrees may require equivalency. When equivalency is requested, the file will be reviewed by PCC’s Equivalency Committee. It is the applicant’s responsibility to provide ample documentation to support equivalent qualifications.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional experience in architectural design, fabrication, construction or related design field
- Professional
experience with analog and digital 2D and 3D design tools and
processes, including industry-standard software such as Autocad, Rhino
(and Grasshopper), Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM), digit
rendering software, digital media, printing technologies and interactive
technologies
- Experience teaching advanced Architectural design,
portfolio preparation, and career preparation courses at the community
college level
- Experience with strategic career pathway
development strategies and activities such as outreach, mentoring,
professional networking, competitions and scholarships, transfer events
and social media
- Membership in professional organizations such
as American Institute of Architects (AIA), or National Organization of
Minority Architects (NOMA)
- Professional licensure completed or in progress
- Demonstrated experience in professional practice. Minimum 2 years applicable experience in an architectural office.
THE ASSIGNMENT:
Ten Months, 100% - Tenure-track position beginning August 2023.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Successful completion of livescan clearance and TB screening
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per government codes 3100-3109
- Meeting applicable eligibility requirements under CalPERS or CalSTRS if you are a current or former member
- Board of Trustees approval
