KAP Studios is looking for an Architectural Designer to join our office in Los Angeles (in-person). 

We are an award winning architectural practice with studios in London and Los Angeles, working on exciting projects across various sectors including residential, commercial workplaces, and hospitality. This position is for a non-licensed architectural designer. Candidates should have an architectural degree from an accredited program and minimum of 4 years of professional experience in Los Angeles and be fully competent in all conventional aspects of architecture. Candidate must be able to independently perform a variety of assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of architectural designs for projects of moderate size and complexity. Performs analyses of design, planning and occupancy studies, and limited design layouts. Prepares project specifications, compiling and analyzing relevant data. Writes reports and specifications. Reviews completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations.

The right candidate will have excellent design skills, evidence of pragmatic thinking and a good aesthetic sense, with a portfolio of high quality academic and practice work, to include sketches, Photoshopped views and hand drawings.

Great Revit skills are absolutely essential – especially in detail drafting. We would like to see experience on Southern California construction document drawing sets for multi-family projects and single fam residences.

Qualities + Skills:

  • Evidence of good design ability e.g. portfolio of work from academic and live projects and academic studies.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability or understanding of how to use a variety of media in the development and documentation of a design project.
  • Ability to take initiative in response to direction or instruction.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, and meet deadlines efficiently
  • Proficiency of CAD Software, Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator, lnDesign), SketchUp, and Microsoft Office essential. Develop understanding of BIM/ Revit.
  • Ability to coordinate internal and external architectural information.
  • Ability to coordinate and prepare end of stage reports.
  • Technical detailing.

Responsibilities:

  • To build your professional experience in accordance with the requirements of the AIA.
  • Thorough knowledge of and compliance with KAP Studios procedures and quality standards.
  • Liaison with external consultants and project teams.
  • To assist, prepare, develop and edit, under the guidance of the project architect or nominated architect/ assistant, design and technical drawings, 2D + 3D models, and other documents relating to the design.
  • Report to the Project Architect of the current project on a day to day basis and ultimately to the Partners.
  • Running small projects independently with the overview of the Partners.
  • Accompanying senior staff to meetings and site visits.
  • Assisting on projects and gaining experience across all project stages, including concept design, planning applications, detail design work, construction detailing and drawing.
