Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects [LOHA] is seeking a Marketing + Business Development Director to join our team in Los Angeles.

As the Marketing + Business Director, you will help define and implement the practice’s business development strategy across all typologies and geographies; developing plans to increase our presence in key markets.

You will be required to develop and maintain client relationships; identify and track suitable project opportunities; and take the lead in the management of bids, proposals, and presentations.

Applicants should have a passion for design and the arts, possess strong communication skills, and be highly capable of leading a creative and talented team in a dynamic environment. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate new business development strategy and implement short and long-term goals in collaboration with the Principals.
  • Outreach to potential clients, cultivate existing client relationships, and teaming partnerships.
  • Engage in the A/E/C community, joining relevant professional organizations and representing the firm at meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Communication/PR strategy, execution and maintenance.
  • Lead the design and production of marketing and communications material including but not limited to email newsletters, brochures, digital presentations, graphic displays, print/digital invitations, and press releases.
  • Oversee preparation of proposals by junior marketing person, Marketing Director is responsible for the overall management, production and submission of all bids and proposals and coordinating requirements and deadlines with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the production of award submittals (preferably completed by a junior person).
  • Manage the marketing team workflow.
  • Support the new business team in identifying, appraising and responding to new project enquiries and opportunities.
  • Responsible for the overall management, production and submission of all bids and proposals. Write copy, collate, and design high-quality, engaging bid documents for tender responses (EOI, PQQ, RFQ and RFP) and presentation pitches, coordinating requirements and deadlines with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assemble fit-for-purpose consultant teams to respond to tenders.
  • Review submissions for compliance, quality and consistency.
  • Maintain a library of written responses, case studies and relevant information to support the production of bids.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts across clients, consultants and specialists.
  • Log and maintain CRM records for new project opportunities and generate weekly reports.
  • Contribute to weekly opportunities meeting with the partners.
  • Undertake research projects specific to geographical markets, sectors and client groups.
  • Attend and participate in new business meetings.
  • Represent the practice at industry forums and events.
  • Help manage the junior personnel within the Marketing and Business Development team.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Work experience as marketing personnel at a leading architecture firm.
  • 10+ years industry experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Minimum of five plus years’ of business development experience writing bids and proposals for a leading architecture practice.
  • A confident, calm, professional manner; creative, reliable, and self-motivated.
  • Highly organized project manager, with an ability to effectively prioritize the key activities and deadlines of the team.
  • Confidence to liaise with senior managers and external clients.
  • A strong communicator and team player, enjoys collaborating with others in a creative, dynamic, and fast paced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and an ability to work well under pressure.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Proficient using a range of software, including Adobe, InDesign and Microsoft Office.
  • Skilled in designing and preparing graphic layouts.
  • Experience using CRM and digital asset management software.
  • A keen interest in architecture and design, extensive knowledge of the construction industry.
