About the Role:

We are currently looking for a candidate to join our National Design Team as a Designer Guideline Specialist. The successful applicant will work closely with the Product, Construction and Design Teams.  This person will almost single-handedly have the ability to steer the product and design vision through thoughtful management of the Industrious design guidelines, providing the basis of design to the architects, engineers and designers across the Industrious portfolio of locations. This role will report to the Director of Design Studio.

This role is based in New York City and will have some travel.

Who You Are:

  • You are an experienced designer with a demonstrable passion for building user-centered physical spaces
  • You are adept at prioritization, even in the face of multiple conflicting or ambiguous inputs
  • You have a fine attention to detail and highly organized.
  • You are a creative problem solver, using insights from customer research, competitive intelligence, and internal data to design physical spaces that directly address customer and business pain points
  • You are thoughtful on communicating the appropriate amount of information at various stages to the appropriate stakeholders
  • You understand the power of experimentation and can help set up experiments and feedback loops to know whether we delivered the results that we planned for
  • Have continuous improvement at the top of your mind always and always seeking to learn how to do things better

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and manage design guidelines for the Design Studio Team to execute upon
  • Be the ultimate gatekeeper of design guidelines across Industrious’ portfolio of products
  • Communicate updates effectively and timely to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure active projects and launches align with design guidelines
  • Guide Design Team on experimental tests, led by the product team
  • Ensure design vision is reflected upon guidelines and opening projects
  • Provides feedback to product team on operational execution of new product tests and designs
  • Coordinate closely with the product team and represent the design studio, guiding that team on best practices, design element alternatives, and rollout implications
  • Manage and lead design projects within a pre-defined scope and budget
  • 3D modeling in Rhino, Sketch-Up and Revit
  • Create V-Ray/Photoshop renderings
  • Iterate custom design pieces and oversee prototype fabrication
  • Research new products
  • Manage design needs for a portfolio of existing Industrious locations


  • 5 years of professional experience in architecture or commerical interior design
  • Experience in retail/commercial national rollouts
  • Management of portfolio level design guideline and specifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Interior Design or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge in programming, project planning and design with the ability to create effective solutions meeting universal design and building code requirements while incorporating workplace strategies


  • Ability to prepare, develop and edit drawings and models
  • Organized, reliable and able to clearly articulate design ideas
  • Excellent visualization and rendering skills
  • Strong communicator and relationship management skills
  • Excels at problem solving with excellent analytical, quantitative, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Process oriented and capacity to assess and shift priorities as required in order to ensure deadlines are met
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Revit
  • Excellent knowledge of and skills in utilizing AutoCAD software, Dynamo and/or Grasshopper, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Excel and Google Docs
