3-5 years experience

Herman Coliver Locus Architecture is known as a practice that consistently solves complex design problems in imaginative and delightful ways. The practice focuses on an unusual combination of building types, namely: very low-income housing and sacred spaces (with their attendant social, educational and administrative uses) in more or less equal measure. It works with a variety of public and private, primarily non-profit clients, oftentimes on challenging sites with unconventional programs. Its many awards and community commendations reflect the quality of design that consistently defines the character of the studio. Now, a new team member is needed who can bring her/his 3-5 years of experience to bear on stimulating on-going projects. Presently, the 14-person firm is 4 large, low-income, supportive  housing developments, several sanctuaries in both the Bay Area and Los Angeles, a mixed-use, retail/educational/residential community center in Chinatow and assorted other civic spaces.

Someone with professional practice experience in Type I and/or Type V construction of mid-sized projects is needed to join our crew. This will be a permanent, full-time position. We expect you to have touched upon all phases of the design process, and to be familiar with the various components of a construction documents set. The position will offer opportunities for design input, as well as for engagement with more senior design and management staff. We offer a competitive salary based on level of experience, as well as full benefits.

Our practice, in the South of Market area, operates as a studio, where everyone’s input into the design process is encouraged. We are casual, but deeply committed to our work. If you are passionate about architecture, have:

  • a professional degree in architecture
  • 3-5 years of prior experience including the preparation of construction documents and detailing
  • a dedication to issues of environmental sustainability & energy efficiency,
  • strong, recently honed Revit, AutoCad, Sketch Up and Photoshop skills,
  • a thorough written and spoken command of the English language,
  • a familiarity with adhering to building codes and ADA requirements
  • as well as a sense of humor and a collaborative nature,

please let us know of your interest. LEED certification desirable.

If your experience has been exclusively in commercial interiors/private residential projects, it will not be considered a sufficiently strong background for this position.
