The site for this studio was in Stockholm, SE and focused in the Slussen area of the city. This location serves as an infrastructural hub connecting vehicular, pedestrian, watercraft, rail, bus, and bicycle traffic, all connecting across a locks which regulates the flow of water from Lake Malaren to the Baltic Sea. The city plans to remove the existing transportation infrastructure and replace it with a new, more dynamic and pedestrian-friendly system and this studio aimed to solve the issues in a variety of ways. Architecture, urbanism, infrastructure and landscape all contribute to the final solution. A constructed landscape joins the existing urban zones to the north and south with the sea. This new system is then cut and shifted to allow openings which become entries into new public and commercial spaces along the water. The traditional relationship between figure and ground is also manipulated in the articulation of architecture, coastline, and landscape.
