“10×10 London – Drawing the City” is a drawing project which divides the City of London into a 10 x 10 grid. The resulting 100 squares have been allocated to prominent architects and artists who came together in October 2011 to draw the city. The artworks were auctioned by Sotheby’s at an exclusive event on 1st December, 2011 at the German Gymnasium in the new King’s Cross Development, courtesy of Argent.

SUSPENDED MOVEMENT 2011

“This square is quite a dynamic urban point within the greater scope of London, thus the initial response was to capture this phenomenon of movement and the dynamic of the square somehow virtually trapped between Stirling’s architecture and the London Magistrate Court.

By means of collage the diversity and complexity of the square is highlighted whilst still keeping within the nature of the urban fabric.

The graphic and virtual movement of the architecture is expressed through the two main vanishing points. These points manifest on the movement and sense of speed. Contradictory the Magistrate Court building, which is another prominent feature withing this square, is portrayed as a monolithic shape dangled within these lines. The monolith appears as to be suspended between the movement of the square.”
