The project of an urban school encompassing preschool students to seniors, was appropriated in the creation of a communal hub, where students could learn, interact and grow. The schoolís existing religious affiliation was appropriated in the form of a Cross, around which the site was master planned. Two central thoroughfares align the buildings, with the central focal point of the school at direct view to the church. Buildings encircle the church, symbolising unity and a revolution; where life begins and ends at the church.
The concept of social interaction and community in instilled into the school's architecture; buildings bleed into one another through underground courtyards, sky-bridges and walkways; emphasising a sense of connectivity and cohesion. Classrooms and buildings incorporate double-heights, skylights and lightwells, accentuating interaction amongst students. The creation of portals to the outside enable students to feel outside whilst inside, simultaneously succeeding in painting spaces as vibrant, bright and welcoming.
