About

I got my undergraduate degree in China Academy of Art (CAA), and recently, graduated from UCLA with Distinction Award as a master student. The studies in these two institutions are completely different, and this is really meaningful to me.

At CAA, I learned basic knowledge of architecture in the context of Chinese traditional culture from the three aspects -- city social criticism, narrative garden, and natural construction. These three directions make me always think of sociality, narrativity, and construction at the same time which I think is really important and influential to me. And except for essential skills in architecture designing, modeling and drawing, I also got very strong exercises in physical modeling and graphical representation, as well as my own aesthetical appreciation in this outstanding art school.

However, in my graduate study, I expanded my understanding of architecture a lot. Learning from professor Greg Lynn in his Mobility Studio, I realized that mobility in the future can be part of the design and solution rather than problems. And it is no longer limited to the design of singer buildings, but also wrestles with the very problematic conditions of the modern environment. So, during the study, I learned quite plenty of analytical skills such as pedestrian simulation by different techniques and I also learned to use storyboard and animations to express spatial design and solving strategies which makes me always focus on people's experience.

I think this specific educational background makes me fit the needs of the times. Nowadays, under the extremely prevailing AI technique, architects should try best to become the irreplaceable ones, which needs our efforts and capacities on attitude and expression, graphics and art. Furthermore, we should design technology to solve problems rather than be led by it. In this way, I have confidence to make this job, and make me irreplaceable.
