IE School of Architecture and Design will launch new specialized programs in September 2025, with an Interior Design track within the Bachelor in Design, along with a new Master in Interior Design. These programs will provide specific skills in international trends in interior design, sustainability, lighting and spatial ergonomics, among others.

The launch event at IE Tower, the Madrid campus of IE University, highlighted the evolving and increasingly experimental nature of interior design, focusing on two key areas: spaces for interaction and living spaces, which must be reimagined and adapted to current challenges in sustainability, technology, and adaptability.

Attending were internationally renowned figures such as Adrian Davidson, Head of Design EMEA at Tétris; Jacobo San Nicolás, SVP Head of Design and Technical at Radisson Hotel Group; Isabel Margalejo, editor of Arquitectura y Diseño magazine; and Andrea Caruso, Academic Director of IE School of Architecture and Design's new initiatives, and founder of Ciszak Dalmas Design studio. The discussion was moderated by Robert Thiemann, founder and former director of the prestigious interior design publication Frame, and current director of the BETTERNESS consultancy.

Next year, the Bachelor in Design, which is delivered at IE University’s Segovia and Madrid campuses, will introduce a new Interior Design track, with the first cohort commencing in September 2025. This new track will enable students to personalize their studies, providing specialized knowledge in spatial and environmental design from a strategic perspective, along with comprehensive training in fundamental design principles. The curriculum will cover topics such as lighting, ergonomics, sustainable materials, workspace consultancy, UX design, real estate transactions, and facility management, among others.

The Master in Interior Design, a 10-month, in-person program, will be delivered at IE University’s Madrid campus. This new Master’s program, beginning in October 2025, aims to enhance students' expertise and accelerate their careers in the interior design industry. It focuses on entrepreneurship, sustainability, and future-oriented design, emphasizing the crucial roles of craftsmanship and technology.

Students will engage in interior design projects at various scales, ranging from residential spaces to large areas designed for social interaction and exchange. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to enrich their academic experience with specific content related to design through the Design Innovation Platform, where they will explore areas such as management, social impact design, and sustainable material use.

This program also includes a scheme of nine scholarships sponsored by the real estate and investment management company JLL and IE University, aimed at attracting and nurturing young design talent from around the world, thereby extending opportunities beyond the classroom.

“Interior design is a fundamental discipline for our School, and as we prepare future professionals in this field, it is crucial to recognize that design must address the current challenges of sustainability, technology, and adaptability in both public and private environments,” said David Goodman, Dean of IE School of Architecture and Design, adding: “At our School, we work daily towards building a more beautiful, just and sustainable world. With this aim in mind, we have launched these new initiatives in interior design, which will undoubtedly contribute to fostering positive change in society.”.
