City Condo Kitchen

This project is a renovation of an existing kitchen in a condominium unit located in Seattle, WA. The existing kitchen was extremely lacking on many counts: the look was dated, the appliances needed an upgrade, the existing cabinetry was full, and many of the upper shelves were inaccessible given the client's shorter stature.

The design solution focuses on creating additional storage space in the client’s kitchen while maximizing the ability to reach all shelves without assistance. The solution incorporates both undercounter fridge and freezer drawers as well as pull-down shelving placed in the upper cabinets.

The design concept is inspired by midcentury modern design and the client’s desire to have terrazzo used for one of the surfaces. Centered on a terrazzo backsplash made of 24-inch square tiles, the cabinet colors used for both the uppers and lowers are derived from the stone sample. This, coupled with a bright white quartz countertop, brings vibrance and lightness to a space lacking in natural lighting.
