Freshman Writing Award, Honorable Mention
Every year Freshman Writing Program (FWP) instructors may nominate two students in each section of English 101 for consideration for the FWP Writing Awards. A panel of faculty judges reads and evaluates the nominated essays, determining the first-, second-, and third-place winners, as well as several runners-up. The awards are then given out at the Department of English & Philosophy Awards Ceremony at the conclusion of the Week of Writing (WoW) in the spring. In addition, many of the winning essays appear the following year in The 33rd, an anthology FWP instructors use in their classes.
