I am drawn to the work of offices which transgress various mediums and scales in pursuit of a larger, theoretical project. Offices which engage architecture as an active agent within the social, political, and economic mechanisms of the built environment. Offices which utilize design to position themselves critically towards the context in which architecture is produced and consumed. Those who pursue alternatives.
I am looking for a challenge, for productive friction, for ambition.
Throughout my academic career I have engaged in practice. My work experience spans opportunities in both the United States and Europe. In the beginning, I spent summers at small offices in Barcelona and Rotterdam. Later, I worked for the design/development firm Powerhouse Company in Rotterdam where I was hired full-time after my summer internship. There, I worked primarily on the design of a luxury villa and was a founding member of their research team on finance and architecture. As a student at Syracuse School of Architecture, I have been hired by two young faculty firms, Architecture Office and SPORTS, to produce work for exhibitions, competitions, and installations. This year, the School of Architecture hired me as a teaching assistant for two representation courses, where I have instructed first-year students in both digital and manual drawing techniques. Additionally, I have been the recipient of two research grants from Syracuse University. The first enabled me to pursue independent research in the Philippines, which I presented in a talk at TEDxSyracuseUniversity. The other took me to the sites of my thesis research to produce three short films on built environments of Neoliberalism.
These varied experiences have formed my understanding of architectural practice today, and they have pushed me to pursue opportunities in firms which are founded on critical design and research.
