My name is Hala Barakat. I have completed my Master of Architecture degree in December of 2016 at the University of South Florida. Five years ago I left Jordan to pursue an education and career while experiencing as many cities and cultures as I possibly can. Traveling around the world has taught me that there are numerous opportunities out there and I am grateful to the ability to start my career and use architecture to better understand our world. I am looking forward to a new start filled with adventures and people from all around the world.
During my architecture education I have developed a great appreciation towards working in teams. I understood the importance of being part of a team and sharing ideas with different people, across countries and languages. Throughout my architectural studies I was drawn into the process of translating theoretical ideas into responsive architecture for the people and the culture. For my Master's project I was lucky enough to work on the apartheid wall in Palestine and convert into an opposing device that aims to celebrate our differences and allow for a conversation between opposing forces. I constantly referenced and applied the idea of deconstructing a device of division, such as the wall in Palestine, to further understand spatial occupation and regenerate a center for cultural exchange.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my work.
Peace,
Hala H Barakat
