The integration of sustainable practices in waste management is crucial for reducing environmental degradation and promoting recycling and reuse. This thesis explores the design and implementation of an innovative Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that goes beyond waste sorting and recycling by also serving as an educational and research hub. Located next to the Miramar Mounds natural preserve, the MRF’s architecture is inspired by the mounds, blending with the natural landscape and symbolizing the transformation from waste to resource. The facility features green rooftop spaces, enhancing environmental sustainability and providing community recreation areas. This comprehensive approach combines functionality, education, research, and recreation, aiming to increase public awareness, advance research, and promote sustainable practices for environmental conservation.
