My name is Hagen and I am a multidisciplinary designer and draftsperson, with experience across landscape, interior, and furniture design.
I am eager to learn and grow by contributing my skills and knowledge to a landscape design or landscape architecture firm in Los Angeles.
My interests revolve around holistic design, meaning I view a designed space or object as an organism that is contextualized by its surroundings, its materiality, and its history. I love collaborating across trades and learning more about different practices and methodologies.
The Cabin, Los Angeles, CA, US, Draftsperson
As a freelance draftsperson for The Cabin, I assisted designer Devin Gallagher in surveying sites, creating accurate plans, and offering design input when applicable.
Self-Employed, Los Angeles, CA, US, Designer, Draftsperson
As a self-employed designer and draftsperson, I have created landscape designs of my own on small, residential scales and collaborated with other designers to achieve drawings and models that aided in driving their projects to completion. I typically achieve these designs using AutoCAD, Sketchup, and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Kelsey Sundberg Interiors, Los Angeles, CA, US, Junior Designer, Studio Manager
As a Junior Designer at Kelsey Sundberg interiors, I project managed all our projects by maintaining calendars and corresponding with various stakeholders. I produced detailed and accurate plans using AutoCAD and Sketchup and Adobe softwares. These drawings were used to communicate with fabricators, contractors, and clients. When applicable, I designed custom elements of our projects using references and site-specific conditions.
Dusk Co, Los Angeles, CA, US, Draftsperson
As a draftsperson at Dusk, I created 3D models and shop drawings of custom furniture designs using Sketchup and Layout. These drawings were handed over to fabricators. I also fulfilled office tasks including project management by communicating with vendors and clients.
MiraCosta College, Oceanside, CA, US, Landscape Architecture
During this associate's degree in Landscape Architecture, I was taught a comprehensive introduction to landscape design principles and history, plant and soil science, and software uses.
University of the Arts London, London, GB, Bachelors, Photography
During this degree, I was taught technical aspects of photography, as well as comprehensive art history and theory. Over the course of the degree, we were encouraged to explore our interests both photographically and academically. For my final project and dissertation, I wrote about the complicated history of the eucalyptus tree, being both proliferated around the world by European imperial powers, and itself a "colonizing" invasive tree that dominates native ecosystems. I researched the tree's portrayal in art as part of a broader landscape traditions to depict imagined landscapes.
