In May 2020, I completed a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in English from Syracuse University. With the transition to career, I look forward to continuing to learn and develop beyond academia. During my time at Syracuse, I accrued 9 months of professional work experience at architectural offices, and had the privilege to lead a summer program for high school students at Syracuse University. My internship at King + King Architects afforded me the opportunity to develop valuable professional skills, most notably the firm’s design process in their Healthcare and Community Department. While a teaching assistant for the School of Architecture, my education was enhanced through understanding the nuances of evaluating design proposals from a professor’s perspective. By pursuing these experiences, I have a heightened awareness of an architect’s influence on the final product.
In the past year, my research partner and I applied for and were awarded multiple research grants from Syracuse University. These grants provided me the opportunity to explore my interest in community research and engagement while traveling to interesting places. Exploring the unlikely community narratives as they relate to the built environment is a topic of great interest to me. Through this research, I found my passion for the synthesis of architecture and the storytelling which emerges from the surrounding community.

In collaboration with Genevieve Dominiak, my current thesis partner, we were awarded an Undergraduate Creative Research Grant to supplement our ongoing thesis work. We intend to analyze Superfund sites around Salt Lake City, UT as examples of how post-human waste and human communities coexist along this threshold. Specifically, we are looking at how architectural design can intervene to further the communication between these hidden wastelands and the surrounding communities.

In collaboration with Genevieve Dominiak, we were awarded an Undergraduate Creative Research Grant to explore the ways in which Icelandic folklore has engaged with the built environment. This Icelandic folklore shapes how the government and communities ethically engage with their environment, particularly through intense respect for their cultural heritage and identity.
