This studio project, completed in Spring 2021, is a proposal for a mass timber office building in downtown New Orleans framed around three notions of linkage: urban, visual, and environmental. Located along a busy thoroughfare, the building and the public plazas surrounding it function as a node to draw in and engage with the public realm. The building provides much-needed ground floor public space for retail and cultural uses and, on its upper floors, serves as the headquarters of a horn company. The project uses locally-produced materials in a variety of ways, rooting the building in its particular landscape: the mass timber structure is made from Southern yellow pine, and the building is clad in ceramic facade panels made from locally-harvested Mississippi River clay.
