ReS 4.0/4.1 - Resonant String Shell

ReS is a multidisciplinary research program started in 2011, between Naples and London, thanks to the collaboration among the
University of Naples, Gridshell.it, Buro
Happold Engineering. The study aims at freeing
musical culture, design and
architecture exploring solutions to outdoor chamber music problems, through the design and the construction of a passive acoustic system: a temporary, sustainable, hand-built acoustic shell that is upgraded every year. Computational Morphogenesis and Fabrication of an Acoustic Shell for Outdoor Chamber Music represents the newest outcome of the ReS research program, and its end-product, ReS 4.0, has been built and employed for 2015 VPM Festival concerts.
The process moves through High Tech Design – Low Tech Construction philosophy: highest efforts are focused in the design phase thanks to the employment of advanced technologies, to simplify  the construction phase.
