Franklin Azzi is an Architect, graduate of the ESA (Special School of Architecture) in Paris, 2000. During his studies, he also takes some courses at the Glasgow School of Arts. He first works for the Office AS.architecture‑studio, before founding and directing a subsidiary named AS.design‑studio. In 2006, he establishes his own firm in Paris –Franklin Azzi Architecture – where he builds and develops with his team, a distinctive approach that: operates in a cross-disciplinary logic, relies on technical expertise, and considers each and every programme and work commissioned without bias. In 2008, Franklin Azzi Architecture is a recipient of the NAJA programme (a French ministerial distinction acknowledging the quality of selected young architects – today called AJAP).
The Office has, for close to eight years, been developing and designing projects from small to large scale, for individuals and institutions alike, and from new construction to renovation.
FAA’s first public sector project is the Center for the Francophonie of the Americas in Québec, later followed by projects such as the transformation of the Alstom warehouse and construction of the Nantes Higher School of Fine Arts, the reconversion of the old Mame printing house into a Graphic Arts Center in Tours, or the new construction of 61 HEQ (High Environmental Quality) residential units, a nursery and shops for the Cardinet‑Chalabre ZAC program.
Further distinguishing features include private commissions from luxury firms such as Christophe Lemaire, Isabel Marant, Lacoste, Maje, etc. for store design projects, but also from large real estate promoters such as Nexity and Altarea Cogedim for office building projects. On a different note entirely, the summer of 2013 saw the Office working with the City of Paris authorities, to answer the ambitious challenge of redeveloping the banks of the Seine over a distance of 2.5 kilometres (1.6miles) to create an exceptional promenade along the left bank, between the Orsay Museum and the Branly quay.
The Office is located at 13 rue d’Uzès in the 2nd district of Paris. It employs about 30 people in teams spanning several departments working together in developing these projects – architecture and city planning, interior architecture and design, as well as an IT research and parametric design laboratory.
As part of this a cross-disciplinary approach, FAA is also involved in the diffusion of contemporary art by holding exhibitions within its walls and even through occasional collaborations with artists.
