i don't live in nyc and i have an architecture degree already, so i applied for transfer. aaahhh!!
i don't know about anything concerning late submission, but as i was dropping mine off, i heard the secretary tell people on the phone that it was due in their office by close on monday.
i definitely had some problems more completed than others. the last couple that i finished weren't very good but i feel like i had some strong ones nevertheless.
i guess we'll see!!!!! it is all a bit nerve-racking.
i have a B.S. Arch, so it is a 4-year, pre-professional degree.
oh man, i don't really know right now what i would do should i get accepted into first or second year; the thought has crossed my mind and i just figured i would cross that bridge if and when i got there.
they (the admissions people) can obviously judge much better than i as to which level i am better suited for, however, doing a full 4-5 more years for a bachelor's seems like it would be inappropriate for myself at this point in time. third year sounds perfect.
anyway, this is all wishful thinking at this point. the first giant hurdle is getting in . . .
*crossing fingers and rocking slowly back and forth in the corner*
well it's two-fold; one is that upon discovering cooper, during the end of my college years, i fell in love with it. through reading education of an architect and seeing the end of year exhibit, i was hooked and set on applying.
the other reason is that when i decided to go back to school, there wasn't enough time for me to successfully put together a portfolio and hometest for cooper union, and then also take gre's, write essays, and get recommendation letters for m.arch programs. i do, however, plan on pursuing an m.arch I and beyond one day.
i believe the reason why they ask for portfolios from transfers is for placement purposes; the hometest may be done successfully but it may not help in determining what year the student is ready for.
somehow thats how i feel
i am a highschooler in college, finished first year design studio last summer, and some architceture classes
if i apply as a transfer student to some other school,
i guess i will be placed in second year
but finally i chose cooper union
i truely believe CU will offer me a dramatic life
i guess one day, after the decision from CU
we should share the home test privately
to be honest, i dont like people sharing the hometest info on the internet. i saw a couple of hometest posted on internet while i was doing research of cooper union.
it limited someone's creativities
hey guys, good luck with everything.
i don't have anything to add, i didn't apply, i only admire cooper from afar. but i was wondering what the home test is like, what do they have you do?
i couldnt tell that much
but i can say
6pages of drawing, most of them are creativites work
3 pages of question answer in paragraph
hard to finish within a month
asking something like
what is ur favorite book kind of thing
yea, my lips are sealed as well. they do make you sign something that says all of the work is your own.
but like present said, there are various design problems given, with paper to do them on. they don't specify what medium you should use, and the instructions are simple and open to interpretation. there are the standard written questions (i.e. favorite book, etc) as well.
actually, while extremely stressful, it was a great series of design problems and a very creative endeavor. despite the lack of sleep and pressure, i enjoyed investigating each and coming up with my solution.
The hometest is all over the net--both the questions, and people's answers. Mine is on flickr.
I agree, the paper wasn't the best. Two people did some risky things: one made the entire test digital (ouch!) and another photocopied the questions onto better paper. I hope Cooper doesn't respond too well to this, as it puts everyone else at a disadvantage.
RAArch:
8 pages - visual problem
3 pages - writing
i did not put any of my answers on net
as we all know
the cooper union is highly selective
in such a small community, students learn and compete with each other, not only within same year same major of student, but also VS diff. major of student
so, i hope anyone got in/ is getting in/ will apply are all elite, best of best.
btw, i saw someone said he finished his hometest within 3hours
and he got accepted. OMG...
i couldnt believe it.
actually, part of mine was digital, and all of my sheets were reproduced on better paper. the instructions stated that it was acceptable to submit reproductions of the test.
it isn't an unfair advantage to do so; it took some serious thinking, time and effort on my part to do what i did.
after receving the home test
i bet that an normalarchitecture student would have a lot a lot ideas
and it takes time to develope them
like those writting questions
i spent my whole month to organize my ideas
plus, for those drawing question.
i don't believe " pencil do to thinking"
CU is my first choose and my only choose
(i didnt applied any other school because i know where i wanna go)
in CU, as i said, students not only learn from diff. class student, but only VS. diff. major, art& enginnering. of course, i m looking for elites to be my next-5-years-classmate and competitor in the field
[depressed mode]maybe i am jealous or stupid
i dont really know what is the USA students' average quality
i moved here in 2006 summer and staying in a dum-dum H.S. with a bunch of dum-dum
for paying $700 a month, i dont learn shit from that H.S.
( but all my friend say that school is a lot better that others, i could imagine how "good" other school can be)
i takeoff from H.S. @1430 everyday,
and than, i go to J.C. to study something i am interested
--- architecture. until 2200 daily, i finished first year arch. program
enviromental design, freehands drawing, autocad, hist. of arch. etc...
i am ready to go....wish me luck...
so nervous everyday, waiting and waiting
remind me the first time asking girl out,
so scared but also looking forward to it[depressed mode/]
Nowhere did it state that "it was acceptable to submit reproductions of the test." I don't know where that idea came from. I still can't believe that person digitized their test (and submitted those weak drawings.)
for those applied cooper union
congratulations, for those finished the test
finally, i had a 6-hour-sleep last night
hope see you guys next year
good luck
hey! i applied! finished the morning of and went up to drop it off by hand.
i've been getting caught up in my sleep too and might just get to do my laundry tonight after too long of a time.
did you apply as a freshman or transfer??
r u living in NY
how cool
i applied as a freshman
i guess it would be a higher chance for me to get in
and you?
did they say anything for late submission??
good luck
after i mailed it, i found myself a little bit depressed
a lot of assignment left behind when i was working my ass out for this test.
p.s.i am a parttime college student from high school
i don't live in nyc and i have an architecture degree already, so i applied for transfer. aaahhh!!
i don't know about anything concerning late submission, but as i was dropping mine off, i heard the secretary tell people on the phone that it was due in their office by close on monday.

do you mean you got a B.Arch or B.A in architecture?
danny wills finished 3year
and he got in as a freshman
please allow me to ask this,
what is your decision if you get accepted as a first or second year?
i have a B.S. Arch, so it is a 4-year, pre-professional degree.

is there a reason for you not applying M.ARCH??
i am wondered why they dont want any portfolio from highschool student...

sounds cool. i definitely think it is a special place and would be honored to be considered.
is one even allowed to post hometest's online? it seems like the whole thing is supposed to be private and confidential.
i saw one in someone's digital portfolio
and one in a forum, ppl were asking for help
dum....
hey guys, good luck with everything.
i don't have anything to add, i didn't apply, i only admire cooper from afar. but i was wondering what the home test is like, what do they have you do?

but i can say
6pages of drawing, most of them are creativites work
3 pages of question answer in paragraph

asking something like

and please forgive me that i couldnt tell anymore
yea, my lips are sealed as well. they do make you sign something that says all of the work is your own.

the size is around 11 * 14.x inchs,
european size paper i guess
the only thing i am not happy with
is that the paper for the test is so weak..
regular printer paper kinda thickness
so, u can imagine....
confused...
so danny applied as transfer and then CU placed him as a first year?
i think so
as i read his blog in archinect
Gyo, what about you?
transfering?

"less is more"
more info they give,
less creative could be

i didnt mean that is is unfair
what i mean is "I hope Cooper doesn't respond too well to this, as it puts everyone else at a disadvantage. "
i totally agree with this.
I applied as transfer...o well
haha
freshman: present, higherness
transder: uhhhhh, Gyo
anyone else in archinect?
maybe they are all CD-rom
ouch present....
by the way.. who got accepted just doing 3 hours work
that is impossible.. you have like 6 drawings and 3 writings
tats impossible
i believe i found that in
http://arch.designcommunity.com/
o well...
guess he is too good then
however, take home test really allow me to learn a lot
and that is what i really appreciate at this point
after receving the home test
i bet that an normalarchitecture student would have a lot a lot ideas
and it takes time to develope them
like those writting questions
