Copenhagen, DK
Friday 25 September, the new book “SPACE FOR CHANGE. Dokk1 - Aarhus' new meeting place”, is launched. Dokk1, designed by schmidt hammer lassen architects, is the largest public library in Scandinavia and part of the Urban Mediaspace project, which is transforming the harbour front of Aarhus, Denmark. The book celebrates the challenging process of creating the next generation of modern libraries.
Behind the book is the visionary library team at Dokk1, Realdania and Realdania Byg, the Municipality of Aarhus and editor Ida Relsted Kærup. Schmidt hammer lassen has contributed our visions and ambitions of Dokk1’s architecture.
"The book is a rewarding documentation on the exciting process of designing and constructing Dokk1, and clearly reflects the open 360 degree approach our studio has taken on the project. We aimed for – and have achieved - a cultural meeting place that will change people's perceptions, not just of the harbourfront where Dokk1 is situated, but the entire city of Aarhus. I'm really proud to have helped to create this library," says Kim Holst Jensen, Senior Partner of schmidt hammer lassen architect.
The book is illustrated with images of architectural photographer Adam Mørk and its graphic design is set by Stine Sandahl.
The book will be available at Dokk1 as well as at the bookshop at The Danish Architecture Center and is distributed by www.dafolo.dk.
