This month, Oculus Light Studio designer Nico Meyer attended the IALD Enlighten Europe 2018 lighting conference in Barcelona, Spain, and was sponsored through the Emerging Lighting Design Professionals Program. We are also proud to say this is the fifth sponsorship won by a young Oculus designer!
Thanks to IALD as well as lighting manufacturer LEDCONN for helping sponsor the travel expenses and making Nico’s trip possible. The Emerging Lighting Design Professional Initiative is a wonderful opportunity for young designers to grow and learn, as well as get a head start within the industry. IALD describes the initiative as “in response to the need for continuing education for emerging lighting design professionals, the Lighting Industry Resource Council (LIRC) is continuing its successful effort to financially support designers within their first 5 years of on-the-job practice to attend IALD Enlighten Europe.”
This trip was a great opportunity for Nico to see firsthand the architecture of the historic city of Barcelona, as well as attend informative lectures about cutting edge technology within lighting design. Speaker sessions were held in the Hotel Pullman and networking after parties were scattered through the city. Nico attended lectures ranging in topics from professionalism in the lighting design field, innovative ways lighting is used to produce safe environments, 3D light mapping and the future of lighting through bio-luminescence.
