Aedas opened an exhibition themed ‘Public Space and Porosity of Super Tall Buildings’ on 13 September at the Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, China, showcasing how Aedas projects have combined global expertise, local knowledge and unbound creativity with our cultural and social responsibility to create tailored architecture for communities around the world. The exhibition is organised with the support of the School of Architecture and Design of the University and will run until 28 September.
The opening day also saw two lectures delivered by Aedas’ Chairman and Global Design Principal Keith Griffiths and Global Design Principal Kevin Wang. In his presentation titled ‘Public Space and Porosity of Super Tall Buildings’, Keith discussed how his designs of high-rise towers are merged seamlessly into porous, naturally lit and ventilated multi-level public decks, parks and facilities to provide a new way of city life which is less polluting, more compact, smart and energy efficient; while Kevin further elaborated on ‘Connected Cities’ with five Aedas projects, sharing real life aspirations and challenges in urban planning and architectural design.
Following the lectures, Aedas announced the establishment of Aedas-Southwest Jiaotong University Architectural Scholarship to recognise students with outstanding performance. The scholarships will be awarded to selected undergraduate and postgraduate students who major in Architecture and Urban Planning.
In the past two years, Aedas has also established Aedas-Tsinghua Innovation Fund, Aedas-Tongji University Architectural Scholarship and Aedas-Shenzhen University Scholarship which are all well-received. “Aedas will continue to collaborate with well-known architecture schools to promote the development of architecture education,” said Keith.
