August 21, 2018 – Construction has begun in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood on Cedar Speedster, a new 3-story office and retail building that will bring noted restaurant Revel back to its original location on the corner of N. 36th Street & Phinney Avenue. The project is the result of a partnership between evolution Projects, Hess Callahan Partners, and Stephen C. Grey & Associates.

Designed by architecture firm Weber Thompson, the mass timber building will feature cedar cladding and weathering steel that echo the spirit of Revel’s original restaurant and Fremont’s industrial past. The building is anticipated to complete construction in late spring.

The interior office and retail spaces will be highlighted with exposed wood ceilings and a timber framed structure. Each office suite has its own exterior terrace that creates a strong connection with the vibrant streetscape outside and provides exceptional Solstice parade views. “It was important for us to design something that felt authentic and compatible with the scale of the neighborhood” says Joanna Callahan, a partner in Revelution LLC, the ownership entity of Cedar Speedster. “We wanted something that felt special but at the same time, didn’t dominate the corner.”

Revel and its expanded outdoor patio, also designed by Weber Thompson Interior Design and Landscape Architecture teams, will anchor the prominent northwest corner of Cedar Speedster. Additional small scale retail on 36th Street is being marketed for lease by Tracy Cornell of JSH. Speedster’s 20,000 square feet of office will house the corporate offices of local retailer, evo.

“Fremont has been home for evo and evolution Projects for nearly 20 years so this is an especially exciting project for us” says Bryce Phillips Founder and CEO of evo and evolution Projects. “Moreover, Ira Gerlich and I have partnered with Rachel and Seif (owners/chefs of Revel) since inception. To bring this combined project to life with our development partners, really makes this one significant.”

Turner Construction is the general contractor for Cedar Speedster. DCI Engineers provided Structural engineering and KPFF provided civil engineering services. Revel is expected to open its doors in time for the 2019 summer season, and will be operating out of its South Lake Union pop-up location until then.
