ELD architects and Sea Coast nv are proud to present project Park Tower, a residential high-rise that will add to the Antwerp skyline.
The project is situated within a large brownfield reconversion on former shunting grounds and docklands in the north of Antwerp, Belgium. The masterplan "Park Spoor Noord" was designed by Secchi & Vigano
Nearby projects include the MAS (Neutelings-Riedijk architecten), Kattendijkdok residences (Diener&Diener with ELD partnership) and the future Port House (Zaha Hadid). Other projects in the "Park Spoor Noord" masterplan include 2 third level schools which will house 3 to 4000 students by 2014.
Design Concept
The building volume was determined by the strict zoning regulations.
City planning rules also oblige every apartment to be equipped with an exterior space. As wind speeds increase exponentially in function of the height, providing an exterior space that is usable, was a challenge. The facade design includes floor to floor glass screens to shield the terraces from the wind. In collaboration with the Technical University of Eindhoven, this design was optimised.
Building Programme
The High Rise will provide a mix of student housing, studio's, and apartments for assisted living. The ground floor and mezzanine provide retail surface. In the two levels below grade, an underground car park and bicycle storage provide space for 273 cars, and 788 bikes.
The different types of dwellings are separated vertically, and are accessible through separate vertical circulation.
Energy efficient building
Park Tower complies with the strict Belgian energy regulations. On average, the primary energy consumption is 65 KWh/m²/year for the appartments, and 65 KWh/m²/year for the student housing
Photovoltaic panels on the roof of the building contribute to meeting the energy demands
