Designing the office of the future

What does the office of the future look like? NAIOP posed the question in their 2014 Build-Out/Interior Design Competition. Design firms from across the country submitted ideas for the next generation of workspaces, and three winning submissions have been selected to move into the finals. Among the finalists is Southwest-based architecture firm Dekker/Perich/Sabatini (D/P/S).

D/P/S’s winning entry focuses on sustainability and flexibility. It repurposes existing office buildings by reimagining them as sustainable, urban centers. The office of the future, according to Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, is one that offers an exceptional employee experience, providing live/work options and access to amenities ranging from advanced technology to child care.

“To create a truly sustainable office building, we decided to design around basic human needs rather than focus on today’s specific trends,” said Emily Thaler, Director / Interior Designer at Dekker/Perich/Sabatini. “The design works for businesses today and in the future because the solutions center on constants: safety, reliability, flexibility and wellness.”

With user needs in mind, Dekker/Perich/Sabatini’s design team developed a concept that includes functional workspace, walking paths, views and natural light, a grocery and other spaces that contribute to work-life balance.

The NAIOP Competition finalists – which include Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, DLR Group and Ware Malcomb – will present their design concepts at Development ’14: The Meeting for Commercial Real Estate. The event will be held in Denver, CO on Oct. 28.

With offices located in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, Dekker/Perich/Sabatini specializes in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, planning and structural engineering. For more information, contact us.
