A new generation of lighting design talent is emerging. It’s more driven, diverse, collaborative, curious, global, tech-savvy and passionate than ever. And it’s questioning how things are done.

The Lighting Practice is thrilled to announce Associate Emad Hasan has been named to the 2017 40under40, an international program that identifies the most talented and promising individuals working in the lighting design industry.

The program, in association with Lighting magazine and global lighting brand OSRAM, was founded to celebrate 40 years of the Lighting Design Awards. Each year, 40under40 selects 20 men and 20 women as representatives of a new generation taking lighting design forward in the 21st century.

“Armed with the unparalleled breadth of technology and able to instantly draw on unlimited inspiration,” Lighting noted, “these millennials are raising the bar on the creativity and quality of projects across the world.”

Emad began his career with The Lighting Practice in 2005 as an entry-level lighting designer. Since then, he has designed and managed more than 70 projects including the Lit Brothers Building and LDS Temple in Philadelphia as well as the Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center at Case Western Reserve University. Now an Associate of TLP, Emad’s role has expanded to include business development, marketing, and improving office operations. He is particularly passionate about recruiting and mentoring staff as well as students. He frequently leads tours to introduce high school and younger students to lighting design, and he participates in teaching, critiquing, and judging at the university level.

“Being a valuable lighting designer goes far beyond designing,” Emad said. “I am constantly looking to develop standards, incorporate industry advancements, and improve ways to manage and interact with clients.”

As an active member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), Emad shares its commitment to cultivate a universal appreciation of the impact of light on people. In addition to serving as the IALD Philadelphia Chapter coordinator for three years, he is a member of the Enlighten Americas Content Advisory Committee and the Energy and Sustainability Committee, through which he has had the opportunity to affect energy regulations in the U.S.

Everyone at TLP is proud of everything Emad has accomplished and continues to pursue in his career. Congratulations to all the lighting designers who were named to this year’s list.
