HEB-Marketprime Interior Design IDA2020 International Design Awards

Luis Othon Villegas-Solis has been awarded the Bronze Award of the IDA2020 International Design Award in the Interior Design category for the HEB Market prime supermarket in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. The project was commissioned to us by the supermarket company HEB México Monterrey belonging to the US chain HEB based in Texas. The project consisted of developing the concept of experiences and interior design for the 5000m2 anchor store located in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León.

During the development of the project, different factors of influence on the sensory experience of the users and the effects produced by the built environment were analyzed. At the same time, the consumption habits of the customers when buying, space, the choice of a product, and staying in the place at the time of eating were analyzed. With the help of the HEB México team, several concepts of gastronomic experiences were designed according to the uses of space, food, and customers.

This collaboration results in the creation of strategies that allowed exploring different interior design alternatives for all areas of the store and its food courts. With this, architectural solutions were achieved through the arrangement of furniture, circulations, and signage that would speed up movements of users through space, and in order to generate pleasant experiences and atmospheres using urban references of street markets.

The design solution is based on a methodology that involves neuroscience and design through a meticulous selection of materials, textures, lighting, colors, smells, and sounds, but above all from a solution taking into account sensory aspects to improve the user experience, time, and activities in space. “With this project, we discover not only patterns of movements of people and their preferences, but also the sense of belonging and loyalty towards the HEB brand. We discovered the pride for a supermarket that became part of the city, and of the "regio" culture. We wanted to base ourselves on these premises, on its people, on what makes them come back and enjoy the supermarket, its food court, its products, but above all the friendly treatment that the store always offers to its customers. ”- Luis Othón Villegas.

The project is and continues to be successful, positioning itself as a place that offers new shopping experiences and, of course, a wide gastronomic offer. It is important to mention that the evaluation of the results and the monitoring of the design is still in process. This review makes it possible to evaluate the results of meeting the design objectives and of a sensory experience with the user when buying and consuming food, the waiting time, but above all of living a pleasant experience in the place when visiting the store.
